Frequently Asked Questions:
Islamic Studies for Children is an online Islamic education service for school going kids. Our course contents are developed by experienced academics to equip Muslim children with contemporary reasoning behind fundamental religious concepts and practices. We believe in convincing young minds over Islamic beliefs instead of advising them to accept it without knowing the divine logic. We aim to have three study levels:
Kids (Grade 1 - 4)
Juniors (Grade 5 - 8)
Teens (Grade 9 - 12)
At the moment, we are only offering Juniors.
Children are NOT required to connect to their teacher through a video conferencing tool at a scheduled time. Instead, knowledge is delivered through interactive weekly homework tasks. In this process, children read some documents, watch some videos, answer few questions and submit their homework online. This homework is later checked, marked and returned back to the children with feedback.
How Children are assessed?
Children are assessed through weekly quizzes or assignments to consolidate their learning. Most of the quizzes are automatically marked and results are received immediately. In some other instances, depending on the nature of assessment, it may be marked manually and returned to the children with feedback.
Is there any syllabus?
We focus on one particular topic during each school term. A comprehensive online test assesses their overall understanding of the topic at the end of the term. Hence, four topics are covered in great detail every year. There is an option to be enrolled in fifth term over summer vacations. A detailed syllabus is available here.
Each homework task is designed to be completed over one working week. It is posted at our educational portal on Monday morning and is due on Friday night (or Sunday night in some cases). Average study load is approximately 1 to 2 hours per week. This means children can manage their own schedule and spend time on other subjects as well. Weekends are free to take part in sports or family activities as well as term breaks.
It is encouraged to provide contact details of both parents. However, it is mandatory to provide email address of at least one parent at the time of enrollment, in addition to child's email address (if there is any). An announcement is sent to parents (and children if they have their own email address) once a homework task is posted. A reminder is sent a day before its submission is due. Hence, parents exactly know the course progress and supervise their children to complete learning tasks.
Is children's performance evaluated?
Enrolling your child in this educational service is like having an extra course of Islamic studies which is delivered online in parallel to normal school studies. At the end of each term, a progress report is sent to parent(s) outlining children's scores in different learning activities and assessments. Comments and advice is also provided to strengthen the weak areas and improve performance.
Who can benefit from this service?
Islamic Studies for Children is open to everyone. However, if:
Your child goes to a public school where scripture classes are not available, or
You are not satisfied with the scripture classes, or
There is no weekend Islamic school around in your area, or
Your work / family commitments and circumstances do not allow you to have this activity on weekends,
Then, this is the perfect service for you to teach your children the Islamic knowledge they need.
A large part of our course contents is based on unanimously agreed facts and concepts by all schools of thought. However, at places where disagreements exist among various scholars and schools, Sunni Hanafi jurisprudence is adopted.
